Another day, another adventure in the hustle bustle city of Kuala Lumpur. Since we have yet to check out the Central and Jalan Petaling Markets, we headed back to Pasar Seni. We decided to have lunch at Chinatown again for a quick bite at a great price.
Inside the mini food court-thing
The small kitchen vendors + cute old man cooking homemade style dishes
We sat down outside at a restaurant similiar to one we went to during our first night, Chinese style dishes and plenty of foreigners sitting outside enjoying a cool beer on a hot day. Unfortunately LTT is vegetarian so is very limited to what he can eat. He decided to scurry away to browse the street food stalls and came back with some awesome goodies...
Deep fried choy (Asian vegetables)
Deep fried mushrooms
Deep fried brocoli
Vegetarian bun filled with cucumbers w Satay / Chilli sauce
The brocoli was my favourite of the three. So much flavour, not too salty or oily, but had a great crunch. The Chinese veggies were a bit difficult to bite piece by piece, making you put the whole thing in your mouth. However it was the sauce that was most memorable, packing a spicy punch to accompany the slightly salty deep fried veggies. (I later used the remaining sauce for my noodles dish)
Fresh Young Coconut Juice
Another cup of grass jelly!
Singaporean Style Noodles
Bok Choy w Oyster Sauce
Fried Rice
Gai Lan w Garlic
Sizzling Beef
Taro Shaved Ice w Logan, Pearls, Popping Bobas ans Basil Seeds.
A simple Asian meal that reminded me of home. It was the only time I could consume vegetables it seemed. I ordered the noodle dish, and despite the visual presentation it was pretty delish and was that much better with the aforementioned chilli sauce. I quickly consumed the entire contents of the plate and my share of veggies (insert fat jokes). LTT ordered the dessert and said it was much like the mango one we tried at Lot 10 Hutong, except taro flavoured of course. He mentioned that taro and logan goes together quite well and was easily amused by the popping bobas.
After a hearty lunch, we properly explored the streets of Chinatown, filled with many different street food and drink vendors.
Peanut Pancake Vendor
Old man hard at work sprinkling shredded coconut in mixture
Ohh, look at the sides crisping up.
Hot and fresh Peanut Pancakes 1.00 RM (Approx $0.40 AUD)
Coconut Pancake 0.80 RM (Approx $0.20 AUD)
One of each, omnomnom ^_^!
You know I'm never one to turn a sweet treat to end my meal. I turned to this sweet looking old man hard at work constantly flippin' them pancakes. "How much?" we asked. "Only 1 RM." Holy moly, I'm sure the air I breath costs more than that. "2 thanks!"
The peanut pancake was fresh out of the pan, with the outsides crispy and the insides soft and fluffy. It was filled with crushed peanuts, although I think it would of been better if it also had a smear of peanut butter but hey, can't have it all right. I enjoyed the coconut pancake more though even though it wasn't warm. It wasn't crispy but had a lovely coconut milk flavour and shredded coconut pieces. It was like eating a fluffy cloud.
Oh Malaysia, how you do no wrong!
There's one more Food Diary post coming up. Stayed tuned!
