There's a saying that goes "You are what you eat" so after a visit to Chef's Gallery, I guess that makes me a cute little yummy piggy bun. I first saw these cuties on another food blog a few years ago and was eager to try them since. Being for a Chinese background, I'm always curious to see the new and different ways chefs have modernised and Westernised Eastern cuisine. Please note these photos were taken on my iPhone 4 (no, not even the 4S) so my apologies, and hope you can excuse the quality of photos. I hope decent composure makes up for it.

Ice Honey Jasmine Tea with Jelly $4.90
The tea was very refreshing and not too sweet. I only wished there were more 'jelly' parts to this drink.
Hot and Sour Soup with Prawns, Pork, Silken Tofu Pudding and Black Fungus. Small $5.90
SILKEN TOFU is probably one of the best things in the world. I feel like... silkier just eating it. The soup was a decent balance of spicy and tangy, and I love the two giant prawns that come with it. The soup has less 'bits and pieces' than others I have tried - i.e bamboo, mushrooms etc. but its a good starter.
Noodles with Chargrilled Wagyu Beef dipped in Sichuan Spicy Soup $16.90
Of course, we had to order one of the special 'hand made' noodles. Noodles can be served dry, in soup, or fried. There are three types of noodles you can choose for your, I guess you can say sauce? - Dan Mian (Egg Noodles), Bian Mian (Fettuccine Style Noodles) and La Mian (Regular Hand-Made Noodles). There's a note in the menu which tells you the recommended noodle for each sauce, but of course if you don't like egg noodles, like myself, you can choose one of the other ones.
I was a bit disappointed by the 'Sichuan' Soup. It was spicy and hit notes at the back of my throat, but it lacked flavour. It was literally just spicy water. The wagyu was cooked nicely and was juicy and tender, but I think the soup sort of ruined the beef. The noodles, however, were delicious. They were soft and sort of chewy, but not in an annoying way and made a great slurping noise. Comparable to my favourite Din Tai Fung noodles (I still prefer DTF though). A side of Chinese Broccoli was served under the noodles.
Shredded Peking Duck with Cucumber and Hoisin Sauce rolled inside a Fluffy Chinese Roti $15.90
My dining companion enjoyed this dish, and so have many others I've spoken to. However, I think they were being a bit too tight ass on the peking duck, and the hoisin sauce was very overpowering. It is also too oily for me.
Steamed Dim Sim Sampling Platter $14.90
I might be Chinese and eat dumplings all the time, but I will never get sick of them. The pastry of the dumplings were very soft and thin, as evident by the Gao Choy Gow (the green one, usually a chives and prawn/pork dumpling). They're no one near as soft as the Din Tai Fung ones though. The Siu Mai (the yellow pastry one) contained prawn pieces and mushrooms, and were yummy. And who doesn't love giant prawn dumplings (Har Gow)! Must dip with in the light soy sauce, and a bit of chilli if you can handle it.
Steamed Sesame 'Piggy Face' Buns $7.90
The left piggy looks like it's crying :'( Careful when they bring this out, it's hot hot hot and WILL burn your tongue. I split it in half to let it cool down, and forgot to take a photo by the inside is filled with black sesame - similar to a custard bun. Black sesame has a very distinct taste that some may not enjoy. I had gradually developed a liking to it as I grew older, and now I love black sesame ice-cream! I thought these were great. The bun was soft, warm and fluffy and the filling complimented the bun and wasn't too sweet. My partner, however, doesn't really fancy black sesame so he passed after a bite, and that meant more for me!
Marshmallow 'Totoro' Coated with Desicatted Coconut $4.90
I felt so jipped by these. $5 for 3 lousy marshmallows covered in coconut? I don't even know if they were hand/house made marshmallows, but I definitely think this was the low light. Sure, they have ears and are sort of cute, but they're also sort of just fluffy marshmallows. Give this a miss and save yourself the disappointment.
Overall I had a enjoyable dining experience at Chef's Gallery. We were seated fairly quickly without a booking on a Sunday night, and our food arrived in a timely matter. You can watch the pastry and noodles chefs work their magic from the dining area, pulling away or stuffing meat in pastry. Price for food wise, I don't think it was worth it - as you can see the dishes are quite pricey for what they are.
