I'm so happy I have so many friends that support me, regardless of how many times I say "Don't eat yet, I need to take a photo!" They're always willing to try out new eateries with me and suggest places to go. Living in an Asian dominated area, there aren't many "quality" western cuisine places. So when Gigino opened down the road we hopped at the chance to try it.
When you walk in, you don't feel like you're in Fairfield (anyone from that area would understand this without any description/explanation). An open kitchen, stainless steal tables and wooden chairs, it has an indie Surry Hills feel. The place isn't big, maybe a seating area of like 30, making it real cosy. The lights aren't blinding as well, creating a very peaceful dining atmosphere.
We were seated by the waiter, given the A5 clipboard menu and he showed us today's specials. They have weekly specials that change seasonly and daily specials such as Lasagne only available on Mondays, and Chicken Schnitzel Wednesdays.
Santa Vittoria Limonata - $3
Vienna Hot Chocolate - $4
Bruschetta - aprox $8
The bread used for the bruschetta was herb-y/cheesey, unlike the usual garlic rubbed bread. We asked one of the waiters, who was also one of the owners, and he said they just purchase them from a local deli. He even gave us a few slices in a paper bag because we enjoyed it so much!
Garlic Prawns - $10-$15 (?)
Prawns made a great started and dipped bread into remaining sauce. Sauce was very flavoursome and garlic wasn't overwhelming.
Bresaola cured beef with mozzarella cheese (special) - $10(?)
Complimentary herbed bread
Incazzato Pizza $17
One of the best pizza crusts I've ha. With giant pepperoni, lots of a cheese and hit of chilli. Possibly the most perfect pizza for me!
Grilled Chicken, Baby Spinach, Mozerella, Cherry Tomatoes and Grilled Eggplant Insalade - $12
Dressing was available on the table but the grilled chicken was marinated in some herbs which went well with the salad. We all commented on how fresh the baby spinach was - bright and green in colour.
Tiramisu - $7(?)
Home-made desserts change daily with a selection of cakes, gelatos etc to choose from. The tiramisu (how much more traditional Italiano can you get, right?) was an obvious choice and perhaps the smartest. Layers of sponge soaked cake with cream and cocoa. Sort of trifle like, but all very delicious.
Top notch service, delicious food, and not too far from home. Not much more you can ask for.
