I wouldn't say any of these are my 'Holy Grail' of that certain category, I doubt I have tried enough to make a sound judgement. But here are my top picks:
[L:R, clockwise] Chanel Vitalumiere foundation in 30 Cendre, M.A.C Fix+ spray, Lash Grip adhesive, Covergirl Lash Blast waterproof mascara, M.A.C paint pot in Painterly.
- I've been loving this Chanel foundation lately! This is a great light-medium coverage foundation. I have a bit of scarring and it doesn't cover it completely, but it's great for evening my complexion and gives my skin a nice dewy glow. I just use an extra bit of concealer for scars, but this foundation is great for under eyes etc as well. The Perfectlumiere was out of stock in my shade but I'm excited to compare the two. If you tend to have oily skin, try the Mattelumiere.
- M.A.C's Fix+ spray has been a repurchased item for the past 3-4years. From the M.A.C site: An aqua-spritz of vitamin and minerals, infused with a calm-the-skin blend of green tea, chamomile, cucumber, topped off with the fresh, natural, energizing scent of Sugi. Adds radiance, finishes makeup. Spray it on. Skin drinks it up!
For day-to-day, I normally just use a bit of concealer (no foundation) and a bit of powder on top. I spray this after and it makes my face look less.. cake-y? And it feels refreshed and ready to tackle photo nights. - I think Lash Grip is def the HG of the eyelash adhesive category. This glue doesn't dry out quickly, sticks your lashes on for hours (I swear if I didn't rip the lashes off they would prob never fall off), dries black so looks like eye liner even if you're wearing none and is so inexpensive.
- I've tried mascaras from the lower and higher end, and this has got to be my go to. I have short and flat Asian lashes and I find many mascaras don't give me the whole package (holds curl, volumes and lengthens). This has to be the best at holding curl, my eyes are poppin! It doesn't clump, separates lashes evenly and make it look full. I haven't tried many waterproof mascaras but I think this is as good as it gets. I just wore this everyday when I went Queendsland/Hamilton and my lashes are still curled by the end of the day. I will note that if you swim in a pool for a while, it tends to get a bit smudgy. Down side: difficult to remove even with and oil based eye make up remover.
- I use my M.A.C paint pot as a eyeshadow base/primer. It blends smoothly onto my lids with no cracks, and when I apply eyeshadow over it it intensifies the colour and holds the shadow in place for the rest of the night. I have the muchly loved Urban Decay Primer Potion as well, but I just prefer the colour payout of shadows using my paint pot.
[L:R] Johnson's baby powder, Dior Capture Totale One Essential serum, Cetaphil moisturising lotion, Johnson's make up remover wipes, Loreal eye make up remover.
- Broke uni student that I am, I have given up on life's small pleasures such as dry shampoo. Instead, I actually wash my hair now... Or for a quick fix on oily roots I pat some baby powder and blend it in real nice.
- I can't always afford this, luckily it lasts me such a long time and I got it for super cheap at duty free when I went Europe (ok, I actually got in Hong Kong airport). It lasts me around 3-4 months with daily use. I have gotten comments from friends asking what I use cause my skin seems to be glowing (without make up on). The gel-like serum when applied is quickly absorbed by your skin and doesn't leave a sticky residue. Your face feels firm, and maybe it's just me, but full of elasticity? Like a collagen boost. I find that I do break out less, my scarring is less noticeable and my skin is less oilier. This serum boasts anti-aging qualities as well, though I don't think that really effects me.
- One stage during uni I had uncontrollable stress and skin went a bit crazy, decided to switch my skin care routine and was recommended to try Cetaphil. Have not looked back since. For like $10, this lotion lasts you what seems like years. I use to use the moisturiser but I found that it was a bit too thick for me, even in winter, so switched to lotion just in time for Summer. It soaks into your skin quick, so you can apply your make up without waiting too long after. I also use the face wash for oily skin , just because my skin tends to get oily by the end of a long day wearing make up. My skin feels softer and is more clearer.
- These wipes are a life saver, especially after long nights out and you just want to crawl into bed but you need to take off your make up or else you'll wake up looking like Courtney Love. It removes literally all your make up, and eye lash glue! However, I feel as if I MUST rinse the 'excess residue' off my face after use (because it's not oil-free) before I use lotion.
- If you're a broke uni student like me and can't afford luxuries such as the much loved Lancome Bi-Facil eye make up remover, Loreal has got you covered. For one-fourth of the price you get the same thing. You shake it up so that the oil and water part mix, dab some on a cotton pad and is great for removing make up off your delicate eye area - and the rest of your face. You can see how much I use it, more than half way gone!
