Ah, the highly raved about 'Zonut' from Zumboron connoisseur, Adriano Zumbo. Sydney's answer to Dominique Ansel's famous NYC Cronut. Part doughnut, part croissant. Much like the American counterpart, Zumbo releases new flavours of these goodies on a weekly basis. However, luckily for me that unlike its American counterpart I don't have to get up at 5am to line up for a million years. At mid afternoon, a tray of these goodies were still readily available with two flavours on hand.

As the Rozelle and Pyrmont stores are the only ones with kitchens, they are the only stores that stock the Zonut. The Rozelle store was undergoing renovation when I visited but I was still able to pick up some Zonuts.

Array of other sweet delights

Lots of regular customers popping by for some coffee and cake

 [L to R]: Banana & Walnut; Popcorn

There is a 4 Zonuts per person limit, not that I needed more diabetes anyway though. The Zonuts were a beautifully golden in colour and generously coated in sugar. We took them home and warmed them up a bit in the microwave before serving them with a large cuppa. I found them surprisingly hard to cut through (perhaps because it wasn't fresh) and didn't get the flaky goodness of a croissant. While the flavours were good, the banana & walnut being my preferred out of the two, they were very sweet and oily.

Was really quite disappointed especially seeing the hype of Ansel's Cronut from grabyourfork, this def did not hit any notes with me or my dining partner. May give it another chance to try a fresh one, but I would of done with a Krispy Kreme donut instead.

Banana & Walnut Zonut $5

Popcorn Zonut $5
